General Settings

The General settings tab lets you personalize how Pia looks, sounds, and responds. Open it from Settings → General.

Change the language Pia uses for its interface.

  1. Open Settings → General
  2. Find the UI Language dropdown
  3. Pick your preferred language — each option shows a flag icon for easy identification

The app will update immediately.

Choose how Pia delivers AI responses.

  1. Find the Output Action dropdown
  2. Select an option:
    • Copy to Clipboard — responses are copied so you can paste them anywhere
    • AutoType — Pia types the response directly into the active window

When you select AutoType, an Auto-Type Delay setting appears. This controls typing speed in milliseconds (5–100 ms). A lower value types faster, a higher value types slower.

Select which speech-to-text model Pia uses. Larger models are more accurate but take longer to process.

  1. Choose a model size from the Whisper Model dropdown (Tiny, Base, Small, Medium)
  2. Click Download Model — the model must be downloaded before you can use it

For more details, see the Speech guide.

Set the language Pia listens for when converting speech to text.

  1. Find the Speech-to-Text Language dropdown
  2. Select the language you’ll be speaking

Choose how Pia’s window appears when you open it.

  1. Find the Default Window Mode dropdown
  2. Pick your preferred style

This controls the size and position of the Pia window each time it opens.

Two checkboxes control how Pia runs in the background.

  • Start Minimized — Pia launches hidden in the system tray instead of showing a window. Useful if you want Pia running at startup without it getting in the way.
  • Show Todo Panel Button — Adds a task panel button to the main window so you can quickly access your todo list.

Hotkeys let you activate Pia from anywhere on your desktop, even when the app is in the background.

There are three hotkey slots:

HotkeyPurpose
OptimizeTrigger the optimize action
AssistantOpen the assistant
ResearchStart a research query
  1. Find the hotkey card you want to update
  2. Click Change
  3. Press the new keyboard shortcut you’d like to use — Pia will capture it automatically
  • Optimize has a Reset to Default button that restores the original shortcut
  • Assistant and Research each have a Clear button to remove the shortcut entirely

Scroll to the bottom of Settings → General to find the reset option.

The Reset Application button at the bottom of the page erases all app data — settings, conversations, and downloaded models. Pia returns to its first-launch state.

Only use this if you want a completely fresh start.
