Privacy

Pia gives you control over your personal data. The Privacy settings let you decide what information is shared with AI providers — and what stays private.

  1. Click the Settings icon
  2. Select the Privacy tab

Tokenization protects your personal information from being sent to AI providers.

When enabled, Pia automatically replaces sensitive data — like names, emails, and phone numbers — with placeholders before sending your message. The AI provider only sees the placeholders, never your real data. When the response comes back, Pia swaps the placeholders back so you see the original values.

To turn tokenization on or off:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy
  2. Check or uncheck the Tokenization checkbox

PII keywords are words or phrases you want Pia to treat as sensitive. This lets you define exactly what gets replaced during tokenization.

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy
  2. Type a word or phrase in the text field
  3. Pick a category from the dropdown (e.g., Name, Email, Phone)
  4. Click Add

The category tells Pia what kind of placeholder to use. For example, a keyword in the “Name” category gets replaced with [NAME], an “Email” keyword becomes [EMAIL], and so on.

Your configured keywords appear as cards below the input field. Each card shows:

  • The keyword text
  • A category dropdown — change the category at any time
  • An X button to remove the keyword

You can add as many keywords as you like. Remove any keyword by clicking the X on its card.
