Templates

Templates give your conversations a head start. Each template contains a prompt that shapes how Pia responds — like setting the tone, topic, or role before you even type your first message.

Pia comes with built-in templates to get you started. You can also create your own.

  1. Open Settings → Templates
  2. Browse the list of template cards

Each card shows the template name and a short description. Look for these badges:

  • Built-in — A pre-configured template that ships with Pia
  • Default — The template Pia uses for every new conversation
  1. Open Settings → Templates
  2. Click Add Template
  3. Enter a name and description
  4. Write your prompt — this is the instruction Pia follows at the start of a conversation
  5. Save your template

Your new template will appear in the list alongside the built-in ones.

The default template is applied automatically whenever you start a new conversation. Only one template can be the default at a time.

  1. Find the template you want in the list
  2. Click Set Default

The Default badge moves to your chosen template.

Want to see exactly what a template tells Pia? Click View Prompt on any template card. This opens the full prompt text in a read-only viewer.

  1. Find your template in the list
  2. Click Edit
  3. Make your changes
  4. Save
  1. Find your template in the list
  2. Click Delete
  3. Confirm the deletion

If the deleted template was your default, you’ll want to set a new default so new conversations still get a template applied.
